Strong demand from first-home,
second-home, and lifestyle buyers

Flathead County and Missoula County have emerged as two of the strongest demand corridors in the state, driven by lifestyle appeal, employment growth, and sustained inbound migration.

The 2023 University of Montana Flathead County Housing reported estimated a shortfall of 3,161 homes based on in-migration data.

The report also said:  Based on conservative assumptions about future population growth, we project that Flathead County needs to build almost 1,500 new housing units per year for the next 10 years – a cumulative total of just less than 15,000 units – to address current shortages and to accommodate future growth.

These two markets have consistently attracted:

  • Remote workers relocating from high-cost states
  • Retirees and second-home buyers seeking lifestyle-driven communities
  • Higher-income households benefiting from Montana’s favorable tax structure
